Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, built in 1955, is considered an architectural standout in the Beverly neighborhood. Now we are getting citywide recognition! Our church building will be one of eleven local destinations for Open House Chicago 2019. The church will be open to the public for self-guided exploration on Saturday, October 19 from 12:00 to 4:30 pm and on Sunday, October 20 from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm.
Our building was selected for its Midcentury Modern style, with a façade of clean-cut limestone blocks and gridded windows. An expansive brass-framed stained glass piece welcomes all who enter and bathes the nave in boldly-colored light. Interior details include intricately-painted imagery of Christ the King, some of it intended to look, from a distance, like mosaic tile. A bronze crucifix hangs above the altar of rich marble.
We proudly recognize the architectural firm that designed our church building, Fox & Fox Architects. They were parishioners at the time of construction, and the Fox family remains a part of the Christ the King family today
